Vanderbilt University - ranked #19 in the
nation in last year's US News & World Report College Survey, VU heads this list
of high class universities and colleges in the Nashville-Middle Tennessee region.
Vanderbilt is comprised of 10 schools, specializing in virtually all aspects of
undergraduate and graduate work. The undergraduate pre-med program, political science and
economics departments are among the best in the nation.
Belmont University - located about a mile from
Vanderbilt, Belmont University is a student centered institution dedicated to providing
students from diverse backgrounds an academically challenging education in a Christian
community.
Lipscomb University - Lipscomb University is a private
coeducational institution whose principal focus is undergraduate education in the liberal
arts and sciences. Its primary mission is to integrate Christian faith and practice with
academic excellence.
Middle Tennessee State University - a co-educational,
tax-supported institution, is located in Murfreesboro, less than a mile from the exact
geographical center of the state, & approximately 30 miles from Nashville.
Tennessee State University - Tennessee State
University is a comprehensive, urban, coeducational land-grant university founded in 1912.
TSU is one of 46 institutions in the Tennessee Board of Regents system, the seventh
largest system of higher education in the nation. The TBR system enrolls more than 80
percent of all Tennessee students attending public institutions of higher education.
Austin Peay State University - Named in honor of Gov.
Austin Peay, who served from 1923-27, Austin Peay State University, founded in 1927, is a
comprehensive state-assisted university with an enrollment of 7,500 students. It is a
member of the TBR, the seventh largest system of higher education in the nation. Austin
Peay offers a full range of academic programs at the associate, baccalaureate and master's
degree levels in the arts and sciences and selected professional programs.
